Donors Choose

Most students benefit most from hands on experiences. In the science content this can become extremely expensive for school districs and teachers. Donors choose is an online charity that allows people nationwide to help students in need. Here's how it works: public school teachers from all across the country can post project/material needs on the site. Requests can range from pencils, to microscopes to technology items such as ipods, idpad and computers. People then log on and can browse the projects/materials needed and donate whatever amount of money they choose. The money is sent to donorschoose and they ship the needed materials to the classroom.
This is also a great site to use if a class is looking for a social action project. Even though there isn't usually much money to spend per classroom there are ways to supplement the money you already have.

  1. Hmmm I hope a school would never rely on donors to obtain much needed science project/materials. It could be used maybe as a way to supplement but definitely not to rely on. We need the school districts to understand how important science learning is. I know easier said then done. I need to read your previously blogs to get the whole scope of your research.

  2. I like that there is a place where teachers can look if they don't have to money for supplies in science. I also think that there are other ways to implement science learning in a cheap way. How good of a chance do you have at actually getting the materials? Or is it that anything you request you will get for sure? As a good teacher I think you can work with what you have although it can be very difficult, but I do think this is a great way to try and get things that you can't afford as a school district.
