Science in Early Childhood

Thinking that it would be difficult to incorporate science in early childhood I decided my next blog with be just that: why science in early childhood. I found a lot of great information.

Young children are naturally curious and constantly exploring the world around them. Incorporating science provides the opportunity for children to expand their curiosity. Science experiments are a great way for young children to develop a greater understanding of the world. It also provides children with direct experience with materials and different way to learn.

A science program builds on children's prior and current experiences and backgrounds. It encourages children to pursue their own questions and develop their own ideas. It allows children to reflect, document, share, and discuss their ideas with others. Science programs should be embedded in children's daily work and play and should be integrated with other subjects.

Young children's curiosity will allow children to enjoy science at an early age.

  1. I agree with what you are saying here. I'm currently teaching in a 1st grade classroom and they love to learn about anything and everything. They are extremely curious and willing to ask lots of questions. Science is a great way for students to experience things that they are curious about. Starting student at an early age to appreciate and respect science can also be helpful further down the line. Kids are eager to learn so we should be teaching them. We probably shouldn't cover extremely complex subjects, but they can certainly learn a lot.
